Writing is a skill and quite often, depending on what is being written, the level of a writers impact on the work varies between mediums. A novel for example is a writer putting themselves in complete control of their work. A medium like film, the writer puts their work in the hands of many…
According to rantings of Christian radio broadcaster Harold Camping, the Rapture is set to occur this Saturday.
So how does this guy know for sure it’s going to happen? Higher Power? Time Travel? Premonition? No nothing like that, Pure Maths I tell you!
Yes you heard me right, Maths!
See Harold is a qualified Civil Engineer as well a Radio Host. Harold’s been a fan of numbers for a long time, as well as the Bible. So his rationale is that god put numbers in the bible for a reason that only he can figure out.
Amazing yeah? But wait, there’s more. Here is how Harold came about with Rapture Prediction:
- Harold apparently worked out the actual date of the ‘Great Flood’ (Yknow the one with the Noah, Ark and Animals 2 by 2) to be 4990 BC.
- Combining that with two verses from the bible Genesis 7:4 (“Seven days from now I will send rain on the earth”) & 2 Peter 3:8 (“With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day”), Camping figures that the end of the world will occur in 2011, 7000 years from 4990 BC.
So we have the year, but how did he work out that exact date you ask? See below:
According to Camping, the number five equals “atonement”, the number ten equals “completeness”, and the number seventeen equals “heaven”.
Christ is said to have hung on the cross on April 1, 33 AD. The time between April 1, 33 AD and April 1, 2011 is 1,978 years.
If 1,978 is multiplied by 365.2422 days (the number of days in a solar year, not to be confused with the lunar year), the result is 722,449.
The time between April 1 and May 21 is 51 days.
51 added to 722,449 is 722,500.
(5 × 10 × 17)2 or (atonement × completeness × heaven)2 also equals 722,500.
Thus, Harold concludes that 5 × 10 × 17 is telling us a “story from the time Christ made payment for our sins until we’re completely saved.”
Your Mind is totally blown right? Well before you get scared let me let you in on a secret.
This isn’t the first time Harold Camping has predicted the Rapture occurring. He predicted the end of days would come about in September 1994. When the Rapture failed to occur Harold stated that he had made a mathematical error.
Come on Harold! Were talking about The Rapture here!
Look in all honesty i don’t hide the fact that i’m not a very religious person. I just try to do my best everyday and try to live life to the fullest. It just annoys me when people like this take advantage of others and preying on their fears.
So this Saturday i’m going to read my paper, maybe head to the flicks, maybe go out with some friends and just continue living, i suggest you all do the same or something similar.
